EVERYTHING THE COLONY NEEDS
The forager's competence has never been the variable.
She works a radius of two to three miles and will stretch to five if the season demands it, which means a single hive site draws on something like eight thousand acres. She comes home with pollen packed into the baskets on her hind legs — a full load runs about fifteen milligrams, close to a third of what she weighs. Stand at the entrance long enough and you can read the season off the colors coming in: the deep orange of dandelion in spring, the pale green-grey of maple, the dusty white of clover in high summer. No calendar required. The landscape files its own report at the landing board, one leg-load at a time. Which is the entire argument. She will find it if it is there to find, and the only question that has ever been open is whether anyone left it standing. Protect. Defend. Endure.
"Everything the colony needs, the forager found. She always finds it."
